Glavonoid™ is a new nutritional ingredient developed by Kaneka which received Novel Food approval in EU in 2011. It is an oily extract, obtained through extraction from licorice, it is standardized in Glabridin (signature polyphenol of this plant) and devoid of pro-ipertensive natural molecule glycyrrhizic acid.

Glavonoid™ proved itself effective in several animal studies and human clinical trials in reduction of fat tissue, especially visceral fat.

Mechanistically this is deemed to happen by increasing fat burning and lean mass development and decreasing lipids physiological synthesis and storage. This effect, in combination with a controlled lifestyle and physical exercise, may lead to an effective weight loss.

Evidences in the increas of lean mass observed in animal model and human studies, suggest an alternative indication for application in the area of sport nutrition.
